What to look for when selecting plywood.
Not all plywood is created equal – and for good reason. Some plywood is used for more utilitarian and structural purposes like creating a subfloor or under roofing materials. These construction-grade plywood sheets are engineered using layers of softwoods that, when combined, are still built for strength and stability. The inexpensive softwoods grow faster and are more plentiful, making these pieces of board more cost-effective for construction projects.
Other types of plywood can be used to make furniture or paneling features in a home. These come in popular hardwood species including Birch, Oak, Poplar, Maple, Cherry or Walnut.
